Impact of your Purchase: 2022

One More Wave

It was on the shores of Ocean Beach City, San Diego where Organic Grit was first exposed to the magnificent work of One More Wave (“1MW”). Organic Grit’s initial connection to the One More Wave (“1MW”) stems from having our team members attendance to the annual U.S. Open Adaptive Surfing Championship in September 2022 to support our brand ambassador, Mike Spivey. We were impressed by the level of community the event immitted.

We have seen first-hand the impact that surfing has when our team members caught waves with U.S. Marine combat veteran, Two-time Paralympian, and Organic Grit ambassador Mike Spivey. The ability to focus on one task, the surf, allows oneself to escape the hectic world we all experience. When you are out in the Pacific Ocean with none of the daily distractions, you'll feel at ease. 1MW supported this experience by constructing a beautiful new board for Mike to catch waves and to continue experience the therapeutic benefits of surfing.

1MW’s mission is to: “Provide wounded and disabled veterans with customized surfing equipment and a community to surf with. By equipping veterans and connecting them to our global network of surfing volunteers, we empower them to heal through surf therapy from coast to coast”

We are grateful to have linked up with 1MW managing director, Rob Garnett, during the Fall of 2022 and look forward to working with 1MW throughout 2023.

Veterans Adventure Group

“In 2023 we are thrilled to have our 1st team climbing up Denali... it is the tallest mountain in North America, standing 20,310ft (about twice the height of Mount St. Helens) tall. Most expedition climbs take 21 to 30 days (about 4 and a half weeks) to climb it and each climber will find themselves with 130 to 200lbs of equipment and food to pull/carry up the mountain”

"Each climber on this team has earned their spot through volunteering, extreme proficiency in mountaineering operations, and being a leader in the veteran community”

“Donations earlier this year went to supporting our Mt. Rainier operations, this current donation will go towards supporting this climb. More specifically, we will be applying it towards the cost for the flight to and from the Kahiltna Glacier”

Patrol Base Abbate

“Donations that come in fund our veteran led regional chapters - ( Chicago, Austin)… helped fund sending veterans to our interest-based retreats located in Montana - (ie “Book Club”, “Fight Club”)”

“Our biggest cost in 2021 and 2022 was airfare and rental cars. With your donation, we can fund and give more veterans the opportunity to participate in events like the retreat or a fly-fishing event in Colorado”

Along with other donors, Organic Grit has supported more than 2,000 veterans to connect with PB Abbate Programming. Through the over 43 active local chapters (which is growing rapidly), PB Abbate can build a sense of community and share skills that help veterans maintain their grit outside the military.
